Falcons Gear Up For Road MAC Weekend

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team (21-15, 5-7 MAC) heads to Mount Pleasant, Mich. this Friday for a doubleheader with the Central Michigan Chippewas. The Falcons will then take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a single game on Saturday and a Sunday.
Bowling Green trails, 20-68, in the all-time series against Central Michigan, including a record of 6-7 under head coach Shannon Salsburg. The Falcons went 1-2 against the Chippewas last season, splitting a two-game set at Meserve Field before falling to Central Michigan in the MAC Tournament at Firestone park.
Bowling Green defeated Central Michigan Saturday afternoon, dropping the Chippewas by a score of 3-2. Katie Yoho led the Falcons offensively in their first meeting of 2012, going 1-for-2 with a two-run homer. Jamie Kertes picked up the win, striking out one while giving up five hits in 4.0 innings of work. Paris Imholz picked up the save, allowing just four hits and striking out two in the final three innings of the contest.
The Falcons lost to Central Michigan in game two, falling to the Chippewas by a score of 3-2. Paige Berger led the Falcons offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Kertes picked up the loss, giving up two earned runs and seven hits in three innings of work.
The Orange and Brown lost to Central Michigan in their final meeting last season, falling to the Chippewas, 2-1, in the Falcons' first game of the MAC Tournament.
Hannah Fulk led Bowling Green in hits, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Paige Berger scored the only run of the contest for the Falcons, going 1-for-4 with a double. Jamie Kertes was credited with the loss, giving up four hits and an earned run in 5.0 innings of work. Paris Imholz pitched the final two innings in relief, allowing just one hit and recording a strikeout.
Bowling Green leads the all-time series with Eastern Michigan, holding a record of 49-39, with a record of 5-9 under coach Salsburg. The Falcons swept the Eagles in a doubleheader at Meserve Field last season, going 2-0 on the year.
Shelby Fink was 1-for-2 in the first contest, including a two-run single. Andrea Arney (1-for-3) and Erika Stratton (2-for-3) both recorded doubles, while Hannah Fulk (1-for-4)recorded a home run in her only hit of the game. Jamie Kertes picked up the complete-game victory, recording seven strikeouts and allowing just four hits in 7.0 innings of work.
The Falcons carried their momentum from game one, dropping the Eagles by a score of 7-1 in the second game of the doubleheader. Fulk led the Falcons offensively, going 1-for-4 with a two-run homerun. Fink went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Chloe Giordano recorded her first career two RBI game. Paris Imholz picked up the win, allowing just one earned run and five hits in 4.1 innings. Kertes picked up her fifth save of the season, allowing just one hit in the final 2.2 innings of play.
Hitting Streak
Senior Paige Berger recorded hits in every game this past week, pushing her current hitting streak to an impressive 13 games. Berger's last game without a hit came back on March 30, in a 3-2 loss to Miami at Meserve Field. Berger has recorded a hit in every other MAC contest, pushing her conference batting average to a team-best .421 on the season.
Yoho Homers
Junior Katie Yoho hit her sixth home run of the season against Buffalo on Friday, a team best. Yoho is currently the only Falcon to record a home run in conference play, belting two against MAC opponents this season. Yoho is coming off a career-best 10 home runs last season.
