Softball Loses Two In Friday's Doubleheader with CMU

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University softball team lost two games to Central Michigan Friday afternoon, falling to the Chippewas by a score of 4-2 in game one and 5-0 in game two. The losses drop the Falcons' overall record to 21-17, including a record of 5-9 in Mid-American Conference play. The doubleheader sweep improves Central Michigan's record to 24-12 overall, with a conference record of 10-2.
Senior Hannah Fulk collected one of the Falcons' three hits in game one, earning a triple and a run scored in a 1-for-4 performance. Junior Katie Yoho also recorded a hit, going 1-for-3 with a RBI. Freshman Jessica Gregg went 1-for-1 with a single, earning her first collegiate hit in a pinch-hitting situation. Sophomore Jamie Kertes (8-10) was credited with the loss after allowing eight hits and four earned runs in 6.0 innings of play.
Central Michigan got on the board first, scoring two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Chippewas added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, crossing home plate twice on three hits to take a 4-0 lead.
The Falcons scored their only runs of game one in the top of the sixth, crossing home plate two times on two hits in the frame. Fulk started the scoring with a triple in the first at bat of the inning, marking the first Bowling Green hit of the afternoon. Senior Paige Berger then reached first base after getting hit by a pitch, eventually moving to second on a steal. Yoho would then hit a single towards the short stop in the following at bat, bringing home Fulk and moving Berger to third base on the play. Shortly after, an error by the Central Michigan catcher allowed Berger to score, while also allowing Yoho to go to second.
Despite the comeback effort the Falcons were held scoreless for the remainder of the game, giving Central Michigan the 4-2 game-one victory.
The Chippewas carried their momentum into game two, defeating the Falcons by a score of 5-0.
Fulk collected one of Bowling Green's two hits in game two, going 1-for-3 with a single. Junior Erika Stratton also earned a single, going 1-for-3 on the day. Sophomore Paris Imholz (13-6) picked up the loss, giving up six hits and four earned runs in 4.2 innings of play. Kertes pitched the final 1.1 innings of game two, giving up one earned run on three hits.

Bowling Green hits the field again on Saturday, April 20 in a single game at Eastern Michigan. The first pitch against the Eagles is scheduled for 2 p.m.
