The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will compete in the Colonel Classic, beginning on April 5, in Richmond, Ky. The 54-hole event is being hosted by Eastern Kentucky.
BGSU last took the course back on March 8-10, finishing fifth at the Rio Verde Intercollegiate with a team score of 606 (303-303), the second-lowest 36-hole score in BGSU history.
Team competing this weekend with the Orange and Brown include Akron, Austin Peay, Ball State, Cleveland State, Chicago State, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Kent State, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan
Head coach Stephanie Young's lineup this weekend will feature Shelby Wilson (78.0 avg.), Bailey Arnold (76.7 avg.), Patricia Holt (78.0 avg.), Amy Ruthenberg (78.9 avg.) and Lily Bartell (78.8 avg.). Freshman Hannah Lewis (80.0 avg.) will also make the trip, but will compete as an individual, meaning her score can not count towards the team's final score.
Heading into the Colonel Classic the Falcons will feature five golfers averaging under 80.0 per round, something that has never been done before in school history. In fact, at season's end BGSU has never had more than two student-athletes finish the same season with a scoring average under 80.0.
Those averages are some of the lowest ever recorded by BGSU. If the season ended today, Arnold's 2012-13 scoring average would finish as the best in BGSU history. Holt and Wilson would finish tied for second at BGSU, while Bartell would be fifth, Ruthenberg sixth and Lewis 11th.
Live scoring is expected to be available throughout the tournament. Check back at BGSUFalcons.com later in the week for a live scoring link. Fans can also follow @DaveMeyerBG on Twitter for updates throughout the weekend.
