Koch Wins 5000 On First Day Of Gina Relays

Hillsdale, Mich. – Bowling Green junior Abby Koch set a new personal best in the 5000, beating out 76 other runners to win the event on the opening day of the Gina Relays, hosted by Hillsdale College.
Koch ran the 5000 in 17:27.49 to finish more than nine seconds ahead of Kent State's Alexandria Vintevoghel in second place. BGSU freshman Kendra Kezur ended eighth in 17:59.60 and freshman Brea Tinney was 19th with a time of 18:17.38.
The only other BGSU student-athlete in action on the first day of the Gina Relays was Krystin Reiser, who completed the first four events of the heptathlon. She will complete the final three events Friday. Her best finish came in the high jump as she leaped 4-feet-11.75 for 644 points. She has 2,357 total points through the first day of the heptathlon.
BGSU will be back in action at the Gina Relays Friday, while the throwers will begin competition at the Ashland Alumni Open as well. Brooke Pleger, who ranks fifth in the country in the hammer throw, is expected to compete in the championship flight Friday.
