The Bowling Green State University women's golf team sits in eighth-place after day of the Mid-American Conference Championships, located at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
BGSU fired a 327 on Friday afternoon, their worst 18-hole score of the season. The Falcons' highest score this season, prior to the MAC Championships, was a 322 in round one of the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, a round that was played in 20-30 mph winds and a steady rainfall throughout the day.
With the 327 the Falcons' title hopes are in trouble, but the Orange and Brown will still have plenty to play for in the final 36 holes of action. BGSU, who sits in eighth of nine teams, is just nine shots out of fourth. Why is fourth important? The Falcons' best finish in the previous 14 years of the MAC Championships is fifth.
Kent State, the only team to ever win this tournament, leads the field after carding a 303. Ball State is second (308), followed by Toledo (312), Eastern Michigan (318), Akron (321), Western Michigan (324), Northern Illinois (324), BGSU (327) and Ohio (343).
The Falcons were led by Lily Bartell, who carded a 78 in round one and currently sits in a tie for ninth. The freshman began her round with three bogeys and a double-bogey, but played the final 14 holes at just 1-over par.
Patricia Holt fired an 81, the Falcons' second-best score on Friday afternoon. The 81 is a career best for the sophomore at the MAC Championships. She is currently tied for 23rd.
Also competing were Shelby Wilson (83, T-31st), Bailey Arnold (85, T-37th) and Amy Ruthenberg (T-37th).
Round two begins on Saturday morning. BGSU tee times will range between 7:50 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
