BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team defeated Ohio University Sunday afternoon, dropping the Bobcats by a score of 3-2 at Meserve Field to earn the series split. The win improves the Falcons' overall record to 18-12, with a 4-4 record in conference play.
Senior Hannah Fulk recorded two of the Falcons' eight hits in the contest, going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Junior Katie Yoho also recorded two hits, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Freshman Marisa Shook went 1-for-2 with a team-best two RBI in the victory.
Sophomore Paris Imholz (12-4) was credited with the win, allowing just four hits and striking out one in the first 5.0 innings. Fellow sophomore Jamie Kertes allowed just one hit and struck out three in relief, holding the Bobcats scoreless for her third save of the season.
Similar to Saturday's contest, Ohio came out swinging in the first inning. The Bobcats put up two quick runs, thanks to a two-run home run from Adrienne Gabele to give Ohio the early 2-0 lead.
Bowling Green responded immediately in the bottom of the opening frame, scoring two runs on four hits to tie the contest at 2-2. Three-straight singles from Fulk, Paige Berger and Yoho loaded the bases for the Falcons, before two outs in the following at bats looked to limit the Bowling Green rally. Shook rose to the occasion in the fifth at bat of the frame, sending a single down the left field line to bring home the first two Falcon runs of the day.
After three scoreless frames, Bowling Green pulled ahead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, crossing home plate once on two hits. With one out Fulk belted a double to left field, eventually moving to second on a single from Berger in the following at bat. Yoho would then hit her second sacrifice fly of the season, sending a long shot to the right field side to bring Fulk home.
Kertes took care of the rest in the final two innings of play, shutting out the Bobcats to secure the come-from-behind victory for the Falcons.
Bowling Green is back in action on Tuesday, April 9 in an out-of-conference battle with Valparaiso on the road. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
