BGSU's Roos Named a Mid-Major Rookie Coach of the Year
May 16, 2013 | Women's Basketball
In her first season as a collegiate head coach, Roos guided the Falcons to a 24-11 record and a pair of wins in the WNIT. The Falcons, after going 11-5 in Mid-American Conference play, advanced to a national postseason tournament for the ninth consecutive year. In the WNIT, BGSU defeated both SMU and Duquesne before falling by three points to Drexel, the eventual tournament champion.
Roos was joined on the awards list by Winthrop head coach Kevin Cook and former Texas Southern head coach Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. Cooper-Dyke has since been hired by USC.
Roos, a native of Louisville, Ky., assumed the BGSU head-coaching position in April of 2012 after 11 years as an assistant coach on the BG staff, the last eight as associate head coach under Curt Miller.
A member of multiple Halls of Fame, Roos has helped the Falcons to an overall record of 282-103 (.732) and a MAC ledger of 146-46 (.760) since her arrival in Northwest Ohio.
A 1993 graduate of Davidson College, she was inducted into the Davidson Athletics Hall of Fame in January of 2006, and was inducted into her high school's (Kentucky Country Day) Hall of Fame in February of 2010.
