As an academic all-district first-team pick, Beatty is now eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America® Team. Her name will be placed on the national ballot.
The fifth-year senior, a native of Indiana, Pa. (Indiana Senior H.S.), recorded several BGSU top-ten times at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championships, swimming a career-best 1:51.35 in the 200 freestyle prelims. Beatty also swam a career-best time of 2:03.91 in the 200 backstroke in the prelims at the conference meet. She swam the third leg of the Falcons' 800 freestyle relay, which set a season-best time of 7:23.87 to finish third at the MAC event. In her career, Beatty is ranked among the top-ten in school history in no fewer than six events.
Beatty was named to the Academic All-MAC team last month, earning that honor for the third consecutive season. She became the first BGSU swimmer in program history to be named to the Academic All-MAC first team three times.
In the classroom, Beatty maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average as an physical education teacher education major. In 2012, after earning her all-district honor, she was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Women's At-Large Team, earning second-team accolades. Only three student-athletes -- Jen Jarjosa (2001), Jessica Guiness (2005) and Beatty -- have earned that honor in program history, as Jarjosa and Guiness also earned second-team recognition.
The Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs in 2011.
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the links at the top of this page, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
