Losby Named First Team All-MAC; Shay Earns Second Team Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio—The Mid-American Conference named their All-MAC First and Second Teams on Tuesday night, with two members of the Bowling Green State University baseball team being honored by the head coaches of the Mid-American Conference. T.J. Losby was named the Mid-American Conference's top catcher, earning first team honors. Jeremy Shay, Losby's classmate, was named as the representative at first base on the second team.
Losby, a junior from Bryan, Ohio, has played in 102 consecutive games for the Orange and Brown. The third-year catcher has played in every game in 2013, starting 46-of-48. Losby leads the Falcons with a .346 batting average which is third in the Mid-American Conference. Losby leads Bowling Green with 30 runs scored and 37 runs batted in. Losby, a 2013 team captain, has four doubles, one triple, and a team-leading six home runs on the year. During MAC play, he has hit seven extra-base hits, with three doubles, one triple, and three home runs. Losby, not only a superb offensive threat, has thrown out 42.5-percent of runners this season, as he has thrown out 17 of the 40 attempted base stealers during the 2013 campaign.
Shay, a junior from Garden City, Mich., leads the Mid-American Conference in numerous
offensive categories during league play. Shay won the MAC's triple crown, batting .400 during MAC play with a league-leading 28 RBI and five home runs. The junior first baseman is also leading the league with a slugging percentage of .684, scoring 24 runs in the MAC. Shay achieved an astonishing 65 total bases in just 24 league games played. Shay is second on the Falcons with an overall batting average of .321 and on-base percentage of .420. Shay's overall on-base percentage is 3rd in the MAC. Shay, also playing as a catcher, has thrown out 11-of-17 runners this season.
The Falcons begin Mid-American Conference Tournament play on Wednesday afternoon, taking on the Northern Illinois University Huskies at 12:30 p.m. The Falcons and Huskies, meeting for the first time since 2011, will play at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.
