Carrillo, who will be a sophomore at BGSU in 2013-14, competed in the 50-meter breaststroke as well as the 200-meter breast.
In each of those events, Carrillo finished second in her initial heat. She went on to finish 17th in the 200m breast while placing 21st in the 50m breast.
"The World University Games was a great experience for Daniela and I'm very pleased with the way that she performed," said BGSU head coach Petra Martin. "This was her first world level competition with the Senior National team. She learned a lot and had to adapt to completely different conditions and situations that she is not used to, which is crucial for her growth and maturing as an athlete and a person.
"We are certainly excited that she had the opportunity to swim at this competition and how well she handled it. At the same time we look at this meet as a stepping stone for the long term goals. The 2015 World Championships will be in Kazan as well, and one of our long term goals is to make the World Championships team that year, so it was great for her to get a feel for the venue and get this experience under her belt."
Carrillo was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team in her first season with the Falcons. She became the first Falcon swimmer to advance to the NCAA Championships since 1996. Carrillo recorded a pair of second-place finishes, in the 100- and 200 breaststroke, at the MAC Championships, with school-record times in both events.
Carrillo posted a total of 11 top-two finishes in the 100- and 200 breaststroke with the Falcons in 2012-13, including five wins.
