Victoria Chatman Named Track And Field Assistant Coach

Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling has announced that Victoria Chatman has accepted a position on his staff as an assistant coach. Chatman will specialize in assisting coach James Gildon in the sprints, hurdles and relays, while helping with daily administration, event management and academic monitoring of the program.
"I am excited about Victoria joining our staff," Snelling said. "She has great athletic experience and has been a multiple Mid-American Conference champion and an All-American. That experience, along with her level of organization and thoughtfulness, makes her a great fit."
Chatman is very familiar with the MAC, having competed at Western Michigan from 2008-12 and then serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Eastern Michigan. At Western Michigan, Chatman won 13 conference championships between indoor and outdoor track and field in the 400, 400 relay and 1600 relay. She was a 2012 Second Team All-American as part of the outdoor 1600 relay team and was on the Academic Deans' List in 2011 and 2012, as well as serving as a member of WMU's Student-Athlete Advisory Board.
Following her graduation with a bachelor's degree in psychology and family life education, Chatman began serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Eastern Michigan. She worked with the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers at EMU, aided in the design and implementation of strength training programs for the entire team, handled administrative duties, implemented promotional strategies to increase community awareness of the program and assisted in the planning, coordination and execution of numerous home meets, including the 2013 MAC Indoor Championships.
Chatman recently passed her level 1 USATF coaching certification in June earned her 2013 USTFCCCA track and field coaching certifiation in January.
"I am ecstatic about working with such an elite staff and team," Chatman said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to improve upon my coaching in all aspects and I hope to contribute to many great things at Bowling Green as I am now officially part of the BGSU family."
Chatman joins a BGSU track and field program on the rise in the MAC. Under Snelling, in just his second year leading the program, the indoor team scored 11 more points at the MAC Championships in 2013 than the year prior. The outdoor team climbed from 12th to 10th place at the MAC Championships and redshirt sophomore Brooke Pleger earned a conference championship in the hammer throw.
