Falcons Fly To First After Day One Of CSU Invitational

All five Falcons place in the top 13 overall, including Shelby Wilson's 2-over 74, placing her first overall.
HINKLEY, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team continued their strong ball striking in the young 2013-14 fall season, firing a 300 on the first day of the Cleveland State Invitational on Monday (Sept. 23). Playing in their third tournament in as many weeks, the Falcons saw four players place in the top five individually at Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinkley, Ohio.
Head coach Stephanie Young featured a five player lineup of Lily Bartell, Bailey Arnold, Mikayla Baer, Patricia Holt and Shelby Wilson. The lineup proved to be worthwhile as all five shot in the 70's.
Junior Wilson led the way for BGSU, shooting a 2-over 74, placing her first overall in the field that featured eight teams.
The Orange and Brown also saw Bartell and Holt finished with identical scores of 3-over 75, placing them both in second-place behind Wilson for medalist honors.
Freshman Baer also played well in her CSU Invitational debut, shooting a 4-over 76, placing her tied for fifth overall after 18 holes.
Senior Arnold rounded out the five players for coach Young, carding a 6-over 78, placing her tied for 13th overall, giving the Falcons' all five players in the top 13 in a field of 40 players.
Hannah Lewis (76), Fran Rodriguez (78), Kelsey Benson (82), Lauren Diehl (86) and Julia Hoffman (93) all played individually for BGSU.
BGSU will be right back in action tomorrow (Sept. 24) on the final day at the CSU Invitational. The same five will compete for the Falcons' first victory of the season, leading by 11 strokes entering the final 18 holes.
