Wilson Earns Medalist Honors To Lead Falcons To Title

Three Falcons place in the top six overall as BGSU wins the Cleveland State Invitational with a score of 608.
HINKLEY, Ohio – Shelby Wilson earned medalist honors and led the Bowling Green State University women's golf team to first place (300-308) on Tuesday (Sept.24) at the Cleveland State Invitational, hosted by Cleveland State University at Pine Hills Golf Club.
The Orange and Brown led the 2013 event from tee to green in the 36-hole tournament in Northeast Ohio. After posting a 300 (+8) to grab a 11-stroke lead on day one, the team battled through the final 18 holes on the second and final day to post a 308 (+16) to close its margin of victory to 10 shots with a 608 (+24). St. Francis –PA finished second with a 618 (+34), Youngstown State finished third with a 624 (+40) and host Cleveland State finished sixth with a 642 (+58) in a field of seven.
Wilson, who entered day two leading the field by only one shot, was able to stay consistent throughout the entire tournament, posting a final day 2-over 75. Her 36-hole total of 149 (+3) gave her medalist honors with a one-shot cushion over teammate Lily Bartell.
Bartell, who entered the tournament already posting a new career-low, posted a final round of 75 (+2). For the tournament, Bartell posted a two-day total of 150 (+4), tying her for second-place with two others in the field of 40 players.
Coach Stephanie Young also saw Patricia Holt finish in the top 10 with a final round of 77 (+4). Her final tournament card of 152 (75-77) gave her a sixth-place finish, giving BGSU three players that placed sixth or better.
Senior Bailey Arnold and Mikayla Baer rounded out the five players competing for the Falcons. Both finishing the tournament with identical scores of 159 (+13), tying for 17th place overall.
Hannah Lewis (155), Fran Rodriguez (158), Kelsey Benson (161), Lauren Diehl (166) and Julia Hoffman (177) also competed as individuals for BGSU.
The Orange and Brown will tee off next in Fishers, IND., on Oct.7-8 for the 'At the Preview'. The Falcons will then travel to Port Clinton, Ohio for the Rocket Classic on Oct. 14-15 to close out their 2013-14 Fall season.
