With the win, the Flashes are now 6-4-0 overall and 1-1 in the MAC, while the Falcons drop to 0-8 and 0-2, respectively.
Senior Madeline Wideman scored the Falcons' lone goal of the afternoon, with junior Sidney Huth picking up an assist on the play.
"We were presented with our first challenge of the season, being 2-0 down at the half," said BGSU head coach Lindsay Basalyga. "This was our first Friday/Sunday split of the year, and although I don't think our fitness was an issue, our mentality to prepare for the second game of the weekend wasn't good enough.
"We made some tactical decisions at halftime to try and put ourselves back in the game, but Kent is good at what they do, and they capitalized on their opportunities."
Gironda had eight points on the day, adding two assists to her three-goal output. She got the Flashes on the board just 7:21 into the match, converting a penalty kick. KSU doubled the lead at the 18:47 mark when Jaclyn Dutton converted a Gironda pass.
Gironda scored two more times in a span of roughly four minutes early in the second half to give the hosts a four-goal lead. Wideman's goal came in the 72nd minute, but Stephanie Haugh responded for the home side with a goal eight minutes later to close the scoring.
BGSU redshirt freshman goalkeeper Lauren Cadel made one save in just over 22 minutes of work. True freshman Michelle Denley made her collegiate regular-season debut, making three saves in 67-plus minutes of relief.
Stephanie Senn played the entire match for the Golden Flashes, making four saves on the afternoon. Kent State had advantages of 27-16 in total shots and 10-5 in shots on goal. The Falcons, after generating just eight corner kicks in the first seven matches of the season, had seven corners to the Flashes' four on Sunday.
The Falcons return to Northwest Ohio to prepare for a season-long four-match homestand. BGSU's next match is Friday night (Oct. 4) vs. Eastern Michigan University, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field. Again in 2013, admission to all BGSU home men's and women's soccer matches is free.
