Five Falcons Named Academic All-MAC

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team tied a program record with three Academic All-MAC members and the men's cross country team added two more as announced by the Mid-American Conference Wednesday. Three more women and three more men earned honorable mention status on the teams.
Redshirt freshman Mackenzie McMillin, redshirt sophomore Maria Meredith and sophomore Becca Rae were all named to the team. Redshirt sophomore Andrea Alt, sophomore Amanda Garlak and redshirt freshman Lindsay Kaatz earned honorable mention status for the women.
On the men's side, senior Jason Salyer and redshirt junior Greg Black were named to the All-Academic team. Sophomore Tim Jurick, sophomore Jeremy Richard and senor Joe van Bolderen earned honorable mention accolades.
McMillin holds a 3.93 grade point average in biology. She was one of three runners on the team to compete in every race during the season, finishing among the team's top five finishers on a consistent basis. She set a personal best at the NCAA Regional Championships with a time of 22:45 as the Falcons' fourth runner and finished as high as second among the team at the EMU Open. She established or set a new personal best in five of the team's six races during the season.
Meredith holds a 3.92 grade point average in communication disorders. She also ran in each of the team's six races this year, placing as high as third among all Falcons at the EMU Open. She set a personal best time over 5,000 meters at the Mel Brodt Invitational with a time of 19:02.43 and then set a personal best for 6,000 meters at the Indiana State Pre-National Meet with a time of 23:07.68. She was consistent at that distance, also running at 23:08 in the NCAA Regional Championships.
Rae has a 3.47 grade point average in pre-pharmacy. She competed in each of the team's races during the season and was the Falcons' top finisher at the MAC Championships, placing 21st overall with a personal best time of 22:01.61. At the NCAA Regional Championships, she was the team's third finisher in 22:36 and finished second for the Falcons at both the Mel Brodt Invitational and the Indiana State Pre-National Meet.
Salyer holds a 3.33 grade point average in human movement sport leisure study. With a sixth-place finish at the MAC Championships, he became the first men's cross country runner to earn first team All-MAC honors since 1995. He finished first among BGSU runners four times and placed third overall out of 289 runners at the All-Ohio Championships. In all, he had four top seven finishes. Salyer set a personal best over 10,000 meters at the NCAA Regional Championships with a time of 31:43 to finish 51st out of 207 runners.
Black has a 3.91 grade point average in accounting. He was the top BGSU finisher in two of the six races he competed in, including the EMU Open, where he set a personal best time of 16:17.50 on the 5,000-meter course. He also led the team at the EMU Fall Classic with a time of 15:42.3 and ended 39th out of 289 runners at the All-Ohio Championships. At the NCAA Regionals, Black posted a 10,000-meter personal best time of 32:57 to finish in the top half.
