January 20, 2014 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Cleveland, Ohio - Bowling Green freshman Victoria Griffin was named the Mid-American Conference's Swimmer of the Week Monday, the third time she has earned the award in her first collegiate season.
Griffin won two individual events and was a member of a winning relay team as BGSU came from behind to stun Michigan State Friday night 150-144. Bowling Green trailed by 12 points with two events remaining but got a victory from Joelle Scheps in the 200 individual medley to cut the deficit to three. Griffin then swam the opening leg as the 200 freestyle relay team raced to a time of 1:34.94 to take first place and vault the Falcons past the Spartans.
Griffin also won her two specialty events, the 100 and 200 freestyle. She remains undefeated in each of those events in dual meets this year. Griffin swam the 100 freestyle in 51.63 seconds and the 200 in 1:51.51. She is the top-ranked 100 freestyle swimmer in the MAC, and the school record holder, and is third in the 200 freestyle.
In her first season at Bowling Green, Griffin was also named MAC Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 4 and Nov. 25.
Bowling Green is 2-3 on the season in dual meets and 0-2 in MAC dual meets. The Falcons will compete at rival Toledo Friday night at 4 p.m.
