Falcons Set To Begin Orange and Brown World Series Next Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University baseball team will wrap up its fall practice schedule with the Orange and Brown World Series, which begins on Oct. 14 at Warren E. Steller Field. All games are free and open to the public.
Recapping Last Season
The Falcons finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 25-27, but were 15-12 in the Mid-American Conference. But, after starting the season at 6-16 overall and 0-4 in the MAC, the Falcons turned a corner. The Orange and Brown ran off a 15-8 MAC record over the final seven weeks of the season to claim the fifth overall seed in the MAC Tournament. T.J. Losby (catcher) and Brian Bien (shortstop) were named first team All-MAC, and Losby was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year.
The World Series
Each fall, the Falcons wrap up their six-week practice schedule with the annual Orange and Brown World Series. A five-game series, the Falcons are split into two teams via draft. All games will be held at Warren E. Steller Field.

The Returners
The Falcons return 19 players from last season's team, including five seniors. Of the returning players, 10 are position players and nine are pitchers. The senior class will be tasked with replacing a 13-person senior class from 2014.
The Newcomers
Bowling Green welcomes 16 newcomers this fall, including 12 freshmen and four juniors. The freshmen class consists of five pitchers and seven position players that will see time during the Orange and Brown World Series. The newcomers in the junior class consist of two pitchers and two position players. Three of the four juniors played at junior colleges a season ago.
The Coaching Staff
Head coach Danny Schmitz enters his 25th season at the helm of the Falcon baseball program. He currently holds a career record of 637-608-5 (.512). He is the third winningest coach in MAC history, and has won more games at Bowling Green than any other coach has even coached in the program's 95-year history. Pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Rick Blanc enters his eighth season with the Falcons. Blanc played under Schmitz in 1997 and 1998, playing an integral part in taking the Falcons to the 1998 NCAA Regional in Coral Gables, Fla. Ryan Shay enters his first season as an assistant coach. Shay, one of the all-time greats under Danny Schmitz, will coach hitters and infielders. Garrett Gray will round out the staff as the volunteer assistant. Gray will assist with the hitters and coach the catchers.
The Captains
Head coach Danny Schmitz and the 2014-15 team will elect captains for the 2015 season. Captains will be announced at the end of the Orange and Brown World Series on BGSUFalcons.com.
Shay Looks To Continue Winning Ways
Ryan Shay has known nothing but success and winning at Bowling Green. As a four-year member of Schmitz's program, Shay led the Falcons to 108 wins between 2006-09. Pertinent to the Orange and Brown World Series, Shay has never lost. The first-year assistant coach is 5-0 during his Falcon career, going 4-0 as a player and 1-0 as a volunteer coach.
