Carrillo Ties 50 Breast National Record, Davis Wins 50 Back At Mexican Nationals
December 18, 2014 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Queretaro, Mexico – Daniela Carrillo and Estela Davis, members of the Bowling Green State University Swim and Dive team, are currently competing at the Mexican short course National championships. The meet spans five days and ends the evening of Dec. 20.
Carrillo is racing in the 50, 100, and 200 breaststroke, as well as the 50 freestyle and 200 individual medley. Davis competes in all backstroke events (50, 100, 200) and in the 200 and 400 IM.
Through three days, Carrillo has won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:30.07, which was over nine seconds faster than her preliminary time. She also recorded a victory in the 50 breaststroke, tying the National record of 32.02.
Davis placed first in the 50 backstroke with a time of 28.87 and is swimming in the 200 backstroke this evening, where she is seeded first overall.
"Estela and Daniela are doing a great job in Queretaro, Mexico. It was exciting to have Daniela tie the Mexican National record in 50 breaststroke yesterday," Head Coach Petra Martin said. "Neither of our women are rested for this meet so their times make us even more excited. It has been a few very hard weeks for the whole team with a lot of racing and some very tough workouts and being able to still hit great times under all those conditions is fantastic. Plus winning events at your country National Championships is not too bad either. They each still have several races in the next few days and we are excited to see how they do."
Tomorrow, Carrillo swims the 200 IM and 50 free, while Davis has the 100 back and 200 IM. Live results can be found HERE.
