BGSU senior co-captain Nikki Chiricosta, a native of Avon Lake, Ohio, will be looking to tie a school record on Friday night, as the Falcons play a match roughly five miles from her hometown. Chiricosta enters the weekend with a career total of 88 singles wins, just one shy of the school record. That record is held by another Avon Lake native, and another member of the Chiricosta family. Christine Chiricosta won 89 singles matches during her Falcon career (2008-11).
The Falcons split a pair of matches last weekend. BGSU fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 5-2 loss at Michigan State on Saturday (Feb. 8), but the Brown and Orange bounced back with an impressive 5-2 win over perennial Horizon League champion UIC on Sunday (Feb. 9) at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
Sophomore Katie Brozovich was a perfect 4-0 on the weekend, winning a pair of matches at the third singles flight and teaming up with Chiricosta for two wins at number-two doubles. Brozovich has won all eight of her matches -- four singles, four doubles -- since dual-match play began.
In her young career, Brozovich now has a singles record of 24-2 in dual-match play. She has posted her four wins at the third flight this year after spending time at the fourth (10-1), fifth (2-0) and sixth (8-1) flights last spring.
Chiricosta went 3-1 overall last weekend, while BG's other senior co-captain, Emily Reuland, was a winner at both singles and doubles in Sunday's victory over UIC.
The seniors each are moving up all three BGSU career wins lists, as both players rank sixth on higher on every chart.
Chiricosta, as mentioned, is just one win away from joining her sister atop the singles wins list. She has 175 combined career wins to rank second on that list, just three behind Christine. And, Nikki Chiricosta has 87 career doubles victories to rank third on that school list. Maddy Eccleston (2010-13) holds the record with 97 career doubles wins as a Falcon, while Christine Chiricosta is second with 89.
Reuland now has a total of 153 wins at BGSU, with 78 singles victories and 75 doubles wins. She has moved into a tie for fourth place with Deidee Bissinger (1997-2000) on the overall wins list. Reuland is now in sole possession of fifth place in BG history in doubles victories, and she is sixth on the singles wins list.

This season, Chiricosta leads the Falcons with 26 overall wins, while Brozovich has 21 and Reuland 19. Chiricosta now paces the team in both singles wins, with 11, and doubles victories. She is 15-4 in doubles play this season, including an 11-2 record when competing with Brozovich.
Sophomore Drew Fillis has 14 overall wins this year to date, while freshmen Harley Hutchison (12) and Hannah Drayton (11) each have posted double-digit victory totals as well. Another freshman, Brittany Plaszewski, has six wins in her initial season with the Falcons.
Cleveland State is 1-5 on the young season, with three of the team's six dual matches to date having come against Mid-American Conference opponents. The Vikings have faced Akron, Ball State and Northern Illinois this season. The team's first victory of the year came at IPFW, 5-2, on Sunday (Feb. 9).
Last year, head coach Brian Etzkin's team went 13-11 overall and tied for second place in the Horizon League with a 5-2 mark.
BGSU leads Cleveland State, 8-0, in the all-time series between the teams, and the Falcons captured a 6-1 decision at the Perrysburg Tennis Center last season (Feb. 8, 2013). The teams have met in each of the last five years. Two seasons ago, in the Falcons' last road game vs. the Vikings, BG picked up a 5-2 win (Feb. 25, 2012).
Following the CSU match, the Falcons will prepare for a trip to Cincinnati for two contests next weekend. BGSU will face Xavier on Friday, Feb. 21, before taking on UC the following day (Feb. 22). Then, the Brown and Orange will play three matches in Palm Springs, Calif., over spring break, before beginning the MAC schedule with a home match vs. Western Michigan on March 22.
