LINK: Complete release from MAC Office
The 2013-14 season marks the first year that separate awards have been given for singles player and doubles team of the week. In prior years, just one player per week was honored by the league office.
Chiricosta earns a MAC weekly honor for the first time this season and the sixth time in her career. She was named a MAC Player of the Week three times during her sophomore season and twice last year. Brozovich has picked up a MAC weekly award for the first time.
Chiricosta, a native of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Brozovich, who hails from Clarkston, Mich., picked up a pair of wins at the second doubles flight to remain undefeated in dual-match play. The duo topped the Michigan State team of Emily Meyers and Julianne Gruber by a 6-4 score in East Lansing on Saturday (Feb. 8). Then, they bested UIC's Kathryn Sharples and Jana Knoppe, 6-2, the following day at the Falcons downed the Flames, 5-2.
The Brozovich/Chiricosta duo is now 11-2 on the year, the best record of any of the Falcons' doubles combinations this season to date, and they are a perfect 4-0 in dual matches this year.
Brozovich went 4-0 overall last weekend, winning a pair of singles matches at the third flight. She has a total of 21 wins this year, ranking second on the team. Chiricosta has a team-best 26 overall wins this year.
Chiricosta now has a career doubles record of 87-39, while Brozovich is 27-11 in doubles in her BG career. Chiricosta has assumed sole possession of third place on the BGSU list for career doubles wins, and is just 10 shy of Maddy Eccleston's school record of 97. Chiricosta also has 88 singles wins and 175 total victories, ranking second on both of those school lists. She is just one singles victory and three overall wins from tying the BGSU career records in those respective categories.
The Falcons, 3-1 on the young dual-match season, play the next six matches away from home, beginning with a Friday night (Feb. 14) match vs. Cleveland State. That contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Paramount Tennis Club in Westlake, Ohio.
