New Orleans, La. – The Bowling Green State University track and field team is ranked No. 14 in the Great Lakes Region this week, the team's highest regional ranking in program history.
The United States Track & Field And Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) began the regional ranking system in 2010 and BGSU earned its first ever ranking at No. 15 in week one of this year. The team remained No. 15 in week two but slipped out of the rankings for week three. This week, the team climbed over Central Michigan and Marquette to rise to No. 14.
Michigan is ranked at the top of the Great Lakes Region, followed by Notre Dame and Michigan State. Akron is the top-ranked Mid-American Conference school at No. 6 in the region with Kent State (No. 7), Eastern Michigan (No. 10) and Western Michigan (No. 13) also being honored by the USTFCCCA.
Bowling Green is in preparation for the MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Feb. 28 and March 1, hosted by Kent State. The Falcons finished 11th at the MAC Championships a year ago but are positioned to post an improved result this year.
