Lakewood Ranch, Fla. – The Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge Championship came down to the Bowling Green State University Falcons and the University of Toledo Rockets on Tuesday, Feb. 4, as the Falcons fell to the Rockets 3-2 in what was a tight match from the opening tee box to the final green at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
The Falcons finished the two-day event at 2-1-0 overall having posted wins over Northern Illinois and Bradley on Monday, Feb. 3.
Sophomore Hannah Lewis dominated in her head-to-head bout, as she took five holes over Stephanie St. Jean of Toledo on the front nine, then let her solid play over the next five holes allow her to pick up a the win at 5 up with four holes to play.
The lone other win came from the Falcons' Lily Bartell, as the sophomore fell behind early on the very first hole, but battled back to win two of the final three holes, including posting a three on hole-18 to earn a 1 up win over Sathika Ruenreong of Toledo.
In the other three contests, both Bailey Arnold and Patricia Holt were edged 3 & 2, while junior Shelby Wilson lost 1 up through all 18 holes.
The Falcons will have a month off before returning to the links for competition on March 7-9 at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational hosted by Western Michigan at the Quail Run at Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Arizona.
