Senior standout breaks two school records in BGSU's conference-opening win
RELEASE FROM MAC OFFICE
Chiricosta, a native of Avon Lake, Ohio (Avon Lake H.S.), picks up the award after winning at both singles and doubles, setting two school records in the process, as BGSU opened MAC play with a 4-3 win over Western Michigan Saturday (March 22). The BGSU co-captain teamed up with sophomore Katie Brozovich for an 8-2 doubles win over the Broncos to help the Falcons take the doubles point. That win gave Chiricosta the school record for combined career victories.
Then, after WMU took a 3-1 match lead by winning the first three singles matches to finish, Chiricosta downed Western's Kathleen Hawkins in a three-set match at the top flight, winning the third set by a 6-0 score, to begin BG's comeback. That win gave Chiricosta the school record for career singles victories. She had entered the day tied with her sister, Christine Chiricosta (2008-11), at the top of both of those BG career lists. Nikki Chiricosta now has 90 singles wins and 90 doubles victories for a total of 180 wins as a Falcon.
On the season, Chiricosta has an overall record of 31-18. including a 13-11 singles mark and a doubles ledger of 18-7. She leads the 2013-14 team in doubles and overall wins, and is tied for the team lead in singles victories.
In the classroom, Chiricosta has a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average as a communications major.
