Pleger Named MAC Athlete Of The Week
April 15, 2014 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio - Bowling Green State University redshirt junior Brooke Pleger was named the Mid-American Conference's Field Athlete of the Week after winning the All-Ohio Championships in the hammer throw with a toss that ranks third in the country this year.
Pleger threw the hammer 214-feet-4 to win the event and defeat rival Brittany Funk of Akron, the second-ranked hammer thrower in the country, by more than 17 feet. It was the first time Pleger threw the hammer in a collegiate meet since placing seventh at the NCAA National Championships and earning first team All-America status a year ago. In fact, she was so dominant that her third-best throw of the day would have won the meet.
With the recognition, Pleger has now been named the MAC's Field Athlete of the Week five times in her career. She earned the honor three times during the outdoor season a year ago and then was recognized again in February during the indoor season.
