Complete 2014-15 BGSU Swimming and Diving Schedule
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Swimming Coach Petra Martin has announced the schedule for the 2014-15 swimming and diving season.
There will be big changes for the program in the next year as diving will be reintroduced to BGSU. Athletics Director Chris Kingston announced the establishment of the program in September of 2013 to enhance the strength of the program and expand opportunities for female student-athletes.
Along with that addition, the renovation of the Student Recreation Center will be complete, allowing the team to host seven meets inside Cooper Pool, beginning with the Orange vs. Brown meet on Sept. 26 at 3:30 pm. In fact, the Falcons will be at home through the entire month of October, hosting the Tom Stubbs Relays, the Jean Campbell Alumni Meet, and a dual with Ball State.
"We are looking forward to having our home meets back," Martin said. "It will especially provide our new divers a lot of opportunities to compete and get the experience they need more quickly."
The Falcons will be on the road for November and December, competing in a triangular at Oakland with Eastern Michigan and swimming in both the Georgia Tech Invitational and the Eastern Michigan Invitatioanl.
"With two invitationals in the fall, we will be able to stay sharper during the winter months," Martin said. "The Georgia Tech Invitational will be a brand new experience for us and we are looking forward to facing the ACC competition, building our ability to race well on a long trip and facing completely different teams from the ones we normally see. This is especially important when it comes to preparation for the NCAA Championships. Also, it should give some of our alumni and Falcon supporters living in the southern states a much better opportunity to see their team."
BGSU will host Michigan State, Marshall and Toledo over a two day span Jan. 16-17 and will close out the home campaign against Akron Jan. 23. The Falcons will then travel to Buffalo before finishing the regular season at Youngstown State Feb. 6. The MAC Championships will take place at Eastern Michigan Feb. 26-28 before the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships March 12-14. The NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will take place in Greensboro, N.C. March 19-21.
"The second semester will have us racing frequently, which is something I was looking for in order to build up momentum before the MAC Championships and other postseason opportunities," Martin said.
Despite competing without divers, the BGSU swimming program has finished third at the MAC Championships in each of the past two seasons. The team went 6-3 in dual meets a year ago, closing the year with five consecutive victories over Michigan State, Toledo, Ohio, Marshall and Youngstown State.
