April 22, 2014 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2014 Women's Indoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team today and Bowling Green had two representatives on the list. Senior Jeanette Pettigrew and redshirt junior Brooke Pleger were both honored. Eight other Falcons earned honorable mention status from the league, as voted on by the conference's Faculty Athletic Representatives.
Pettigrew boasts a 3.67 grade point average in human movement, sport, and leisure studies. On the track, she was the MAC Champion in the 60 and a first team all-conference performer. Pettigrew won the 60 at the MAC Championships with a time of 7.53 seconds and also broke the school record in the 200 at the meet, finishing as the MAC runner-up in 24.18 seconds. She also competed in the long jump for the Falcons, placing fourth in the MAC with a leap of 19-feet-4.
Pleger holds a 3.73 grade point average in nursing. She finished the year ranked No. 23 in the country in the weight throw and finished fourth at the MAC Championships with a distance of 66-5.25. Pleger broke the school record in the event at Grand Valley State's Big Meet, tossing the weight 67-10.25. She was named MAC Field Athlete of the Week for that performance and also posted victories at the Kent State Tune-Up and the Tom Wright Open.
Along with those two, eight other Falcons were named honorable mention Academic All-MAC. They were Andrea Alt, Amanda Garlak, Lindsay Kaatz, Mackenzie McMillin, Maria Meredith, Becca Rae, Jasmine Redman and Krystin Reiser.
The Academic All-MAC honor is given to student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics.
