Right-handed pitcher strikes out career-high 12 in complete-game win
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University right-handed pitcher Mike Frank was named Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced this afternoon. It is the second consecutive week that the redshirt senior from Maumee, Ohio has been the recipient of the award. He won the award a week ago after pitching seven innings and allowing just one hit in a win against Northern Illinois.
For the second straight weekend, Frank was absolutely dominate, defeating Western Michigan to earn his second straight victory. The right-handed pitcher shut down the WMU offense, tossing a four-hit, complete-game for the win. He struck out a career-high 12 batters, which also tied the high mark within the Mid-American Conference for the 2014 season. He had a WHIP of just 0.55, shutting down the Broncos for the first eight innings before surrendering a run in the ninth. Frank is now third all-time for career innings pitched at BGSU and moved into fourth on the all-time list for strikeouts.
Frank and the Falcons will return to action on Tuesday (April 7) for a midweek showdown with the Toledo Rockets. BGSU and UT will play a midweek home-and-home series this week. First pitch from Warren E. Steller Field will be at 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, while first pitch on Wednesday will be at 3:05 p.m. at Scott Park. Following the nonconference midweek series, the Orange and Brown will return home to host Central Michigan in Mid-American Conference action. Game times for next weekend will be 3:05 p.m. on Friday (April 11), and 1:05 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
