Akron enters Friday's match with an overall record of 10-12, and the Zips are 0-5 in MAC play to date. UA dropped a 7-0 decision to Miami on Saturday (April 5), a day after a 6-1 setback against Ball State. UA is 2-6 in home matches, but the Zips have an 8-6 record in road contests. Zips senior Ksenia Berestetska is 17-3 in dual-match singles play this season.
Buffalo is 12-4 this season to date, and the Bulls have a MAC record of 3-2 heading into a Friday match at Western Michigan. Last weekend, UB picked up a 5-2 win over Miami on Friday (April 4), before losing a marathon 4-3 decision against Ball State the following afternoon. The loss to BSU snapped a three-match winning streak for the Bulls, who are 8-2 in home matches, 2-2 on the road and 2-0 in neutral-site duals.
The Falcons lead Akron, 27-7, in the all-time series between the teams, and BGSU captured a pair of meetings last season. The Falcons picked up a 4-3 road win in the teams' regular-season matchup (Apr. 5, 2013), snapping a five-match UA series winning streak. Then, the Brown and Orange posted a 4-2 win in the semifinal round of the MAC Championships in Muncie, Ind. (Apr. 27, 2013), advancing to the league tournament's championship match for the first time in program history. In the teams' last meeting in Northwest Ohio, Akron blanked BG, 7-0, at the Perrysburg Tennis Center two years ago (March 31, 2012). Prior to UA's recent five-match winning streak over the Falcons, BGSU had won 16-straight matches vs. the Zips, dating to the 1992-93 season.
BGSU leads Buffalo, 13-4, in that series, but the Bulls downed the Falcons by a 5-2 score last April 6, snapping BG's two-match series winning streak. BGSU won the first nine series meetings, and the teams have split the last eight matchups. Two years ago, the Falcons pulled out a 4-3 victory over the Bulls at the PTC (March 30, 2012).
