AVON, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced the All-MAC teams and specialty awards on Tuesday night inside All Pro Freight Stadium. Among the 15-member first team were two Bowling Green State University Falcons, as catcher T.J. Losby and shortstop Brian Bien garnered recognition from the league's head coaches. Losby was also named the inaugural Defensive Player of the Year.
Losby, a native of Bryan, Ohio, hit .331 in 50 starts. Losby has played in 159 consecutive games for the Falcons, playing in every game over the past three seasons. Losby had 36 RBI and scored 25 runs this season, recording nine doubles, two triples, and a home run. A first team All-MAC recipient a season ago, Losby hit .362 during MAC play. Over the final 28 games of 2014, Losby hit .388 with a team-high .524 slugging percentage. Losby threw out 11-of-24 attempted base stealers during MAC play, and had a fielding percentage of .988 this season. Losby is the career leader for putouts, with 1,068. In 50 games this season, Losby made just four errors and recorded a team-high 312 putouts.
Bien, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, has led the Falcons from wire-to-wire in hitting. Starting all 50 games at shortstop, Bien hit .371 in Mid-American Conference play and led the league with 43 hits during conference play. He scored 20 runs and had 14 runs batted in, slugging .414 with an on-base percentage of .385. Overall, Bien stole 17 bases during the season, with an on-base percentage of .404. He is third in school history with 14 sacrifices, and made just four errors in 27 MAC games. This is the second time in his career which Bien has been placed on an All-MAC team, earning second team All-MAC at second base in 2012.
This season marks the first year since 2010 that at least two Falcons have been named first team All-MAC. It is the first time since 2009 that mutliple position players have garnered first team attention. The Falcons will begin play at the 2014 Mid-American Conference Tournament on Wednesday, when they take on the No. 4 seed Kent State. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. inside All Pro Freight Stadium.
