BGSU Swimming Named Scholar All-America Team
July 10, 2014 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swimming team was one of 150 NCAA Division I women's programs recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as a Scholar All-America Team for the spring semester. In fact, with a 3.49 team grade point average, BGSU ranked No. 21 among all NCAA Division I schools.
Under head coach Petra Martin, BGSU has consistently earned the CSCAA's Scholar All-America Team honor and has often ranked among the top 30 in the country. In order to qualify, a swimming team must have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
"I am happy to see the team being recognized as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team again, placing 21st in the country amongst Division I women's swimming and diving programs," Martin said. "We are very driven towards the academic success of our student-athletes and it shows. I would also like to say thank you to our athletics academic support office as they definitely contribute in a large way to our team's academic success."
BGSU swimming has been able to balance academic rigors and athletic success under Martin. The program has finished third at the Mid-American Conference Championships in each of the past two years, doing so without the benefit of a diving program. That will change in 2014-15 as the University announced in September that it will establish diving to expand opportunities and to take away the competitive disadvantage for the swimming program.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the oldest professional organization of college coaches in America. The CSCAA is dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level.
