Matches will be held at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus as well as at Bowling Green High School. In the event of inclement weather, the tourney would be moved indoors to the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
Eight teams will participate in the tourney. In addition to the Falcons, schools taking part in the BGSU Invitational include Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Detroit, IPFW, Toledo, UIC and Youngstown State. There will be seven singles flights and four doubles flights. Overall team scores will not be kept, but flight champions will be crowned.
"Home tournaments are always fun," said Elkin, in her first year at the helm of the Falcons. "We will get a lot of tennis in, and we hope to play with high energy. We're looking forward to getting a chance to play in front of the home fans this weekend.
"Everyone gets a chance to play three singles and three doubles matches. That's a lot of tennis in one weekend, and a great chance to gain some valuable experience."
Competitors will play one round of doubles on Friday morning, followed by two rounds of singles. On Saturday, the final two rounds of doubles will be held, with the last round of singles closing out the tourney.
Elkin's youthful roster features four freshmen, three sophomores and one junior. Drew Fillis is the lone member of the program who has been part of the team for more than 13 months. Fillis is joined by sophs Hannah Drayton, Harley Hutchison and Brittany Plaszewski. The freshman class consists of Madison Adams, Meili Martin, Megan Miller and Emily Witt.
Last weekend, the Falcons opened the 2014-15 season at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. Adams, Martin and Miller each picked up the first wins of their collegiate careers during the two-day tournament (Sept. 12-13).
"We didn't quite get all of the results that we wanted last weekend, but the girls played well," said Elkin. "The effort was amazing, their attitudes were great, and if we keep doing the little things correctly, the results will come. We saw a lot of good things last weekend, and we have a lot to build on."
