The two-day, eight-team tournament is being held at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus, as well as at Bowling Green High School. Team scores are not kept, but flight champions will be crowned.
The participating schools, in addition to the Falcons, include Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Detroit, IPFW, Toledo, UIC and Youngstown State.
"We had a good day of tennis," said BGSU head coach Olga Elkin. "We got some good wins today, which was great to see.
"Every time our players step on the court, they get better. That's what we are looking for. This weekend gives us the opportunity to play a lot of tennis against a lot of great players, and that will make us better and better, and will help us in the spring."
At the second singles flight, Adams defeated Toledo's Katelyn Nguyen in straight sets in her opening-round match, then went to a 10-point tiebreaker to down IPFW's Carlota Trevino in the semifinals. Adams dispatched Nguyen by scores of 6-2 and 7-5. Against Trevino, the BG freshman captured the first set, 6-4, before her opponent bounced back for a second-set win. Adams, however, closed out the win with a 10-5 decision in the tiebreaker.
Adams will face Cincinnati's Katya Bure in Saturday's championship match, which is scheduled to begin at noon at Keefe Courts.
Sophomore Hannah Drayton and freshmen Meili Martin and Emily Witt each advanced to the second round before succumbing. Drayton downed Detroit's Viktoria Laskutova in the opening round at the fifth flight, before falling to UC's Hannah Wille.
Martin lost only four games in her first-round win over UIC's Ann-Sophie Hahn at the third flight, befure UC's Lauren Bellinger topped the Falcon freshman in the semifinal round. Witt advanced by default at the sixth flight, falling to UT's Kayleigh Hall in the semifinals.
BGSU's other Friday competitors in singles action included sophomore Harley Hutchison at the top flight, freshman Megan Miller at flight number four and soph Brittany Plaszewski at the seventh flight. Plaszewski split her two matches on the afternoon. After being forced to retire due to injury in her first match, Plaszewski returned to the court and took care of UC's Samantha Perry in straight sets, winning by scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
In doubles action, Martin and Drayton won their lone match of the day at the second flight, cruising past a UIC team by an 8-2 result. BG's top-flighted duo of Hutchison and Adams dropped a narrow 8-5 decision to a YSU tandem, while freshmen Miller and Witt comprised the Falcons' team at the third flight.
The Falcons and the seven other competing schools completed one round of doubles and two rounds of singles on Friday. Saturday's action will see the participants play the final two rounds of doubles before the last round of singles closes the tourney. Action begins at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, with matches again split between Keefe Courts and Bowling Green High School.
