BGSU Women’s Soccer With Six Named to Academic All-MAC Team

Official Mid-American Conference 2014 Women's Soccer MAC All-Academic Team Release
Cleveland, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team had a total of six student-athletes named to the 2014 Women's Soccer Academic All-MAC, the league office announced on Monday, Jan. 5.
BGSU's Paige Amodio, Kylie Briem, Lauren Cadel, Jessica Creech, Sidney Huth and Haley Parkinson all received a spot on the 2014 Academic All-MAC Team.
A total of 123 student-athletes were named to the team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in both athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
Paige Amodio, Sophomore, Health Science, 3.724 grade point average
Amodio received her first Academic All-MAC selection this season, as the sophomore was named to the College Sports Madness 2014 Mid-American All-Conference Second-Team. The defender, who also named to the College Sports Madness 2014 Preseason All-Conference Team at the beginning of the season, played in all 18 games for the Falcons, starting 17 matches and logging a total of 1,532 minutes on the pitch on the season. Amodio played every minute of all 11 MAC matches on the year for BGSU and was part of a defensive unit that recorded four shutouts on the season. The sophomore scored her first career goal and picked up her first career assist in the 8-0 win at Chicago State on Sept. 7.
Kylie Briem, RS-Senior, Exercise Science, 3.401 grade point average
Now a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree (2012, 2013, 2014), Briem played in 15 games, starting 10 for the Falcons this season. The redshirt-senior, who saw action in eight MAC contests on the year, totaled 867 minutes of time on the field for the year and recorded two shots on the season. She posted a shot in the win at Chicago State on Sept. 7 and also registered a shot at Miami on Sept. 26.
Lauren Cadel, RS-Sophomore, Biology, 3.868 grade point average
Earning Academic All-MAC recognition for the second straight season (2013, 2014), Cadel was named to the 2014 All-MAC Second Team. Tabbed the MAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 20, Cadel was ranked by TopDrawerSoccer.com as the No. 16 overall women's soccer player in the Mid-American Conference in the preseason. The redshirt-sophomore led the MAC and was third among all NCAA Division I goalkeepers with 146 saves on the season. She also led the conference and was fifth in the nation with 8.11 saves per game, ranked third in the conference and 43rd in the nation with a saves percentage of .834 on the year. Cadel played in and started all 18 games in goal for the Falcons and totaled 1,535:25 minutes in goal on the season. Her 146 total saves on the year is a new BGSU record for the most saves by a goalkeeper in a single season, while her .834 saves percentage on the season is the fourth best in BGSU history year. With only two years of action on the pitch for BGSU, Cadel already ranks fourth on the BGSU career saves list with 255 stops and her 12 career matches with double digit saves per outing is already a BGSU school record.
Jessica Creech, Sophomore, Health Science, 3.714 grade point average
Creech, who picked up her first Academic All-MAC recognition this season, played in all 18 matches for the Falcons, making 17 starts. The sophomore, who saw action in all 11 MAC matches and started 10 of those conference contests, logged 1,393 minutes of action on the pitch for the season. Creech scored her first career goal, the game-winning goal, and picked up an assist in the win at Chicago State on Sept. 7.
Sidney Huth, Senior, Applied Heath Science, 3.956 grade point average
Named to the Capital One Academic All-District District 5 Second-Team this season, Huth is a now a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree (2012, 2013, 2014). Huth, who was tabbed the MAC Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 8, played in 16 matches for BGSU on the year, starting five of those contests, and totaled 523 minutes on the pitch for the season. The senior forward, who totaled six points on the season, scored two goals in the road win at Chicago State on Sept. 7. She also picked up two assists in the 8-0 road win at Chicago State.
Haley Parkinson, Junior, Business Administration (Finance), 3.309 grade point average
After receiving Honorable Mention Academic All-MAC honors last season, Parkinson finds herself on the 2014 Academic All-MAC Team this year. Awarded the Leslie Dawley "Fighting Falcon" Award from the BGSU coaching staff and her teammates, Parkinson played in and started all 18 matches for the Falcons on the defensive back line. Logging 1,657 minutes on the field for the season, the junior played all but one minute on the season for BGSU and was a key part of the defensive back line that help post four shutouts on the year. Offensively, Parkinson recorded six shots on the season, placing two shots on target.
