Ann Arbor, Mich. - University of Michigan women's soccer head coach Greg Ryan announced the hiring of assistant coach and former BGSU Falcon Tiffany Hansen on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Hansen joins the Wolverine staff with seven years of Division I assistant coaching experience, including the last four at the University of Dayton, and will work primarily with the Maize and Blue goalkeepers.
"We are extremely excited to have Tiffany join our staff," said Ryan. "She is an outstanding assistant coach and will make a huge and positive impact on our program. I first met Tiffany though our experiences with Region II ODP and I have seen firsthand how well known and highly regarded she is throughout the Midwest Region."
Hansen got her start in collegiate coaching as the goalkeeper coach for three seasons at Bowling Green State University (2008-11), where she also competed during the final two years of her playing career. In three seasons as an assistant, she helped BGSU record 23 shutouts, including a program-record 14 during the 2008 season. She also guided a Falcon goalkeeper to First Team All-MAC honors. In addition to her success as a goalkeeper coach, Hansen also pursued a Master's degree in food and nutrition from BGSU, earning her degree in 2010.
Hansen began her collegiate playing career at Louisville in 2004, before transferring to Bowling Green for her final two seasons. As a goalkeeper at BGSU, she helped the Falcons set a new record for shutouts in a season with 10 in 2006. She represented the Falcons as a team captain as a senior and was also a two-time BGSU Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominee (2006-07). Hansen graduated Summa Cum Laude from BGSU with a bachelor's degree in dietetics in 2008.
"I would like to thank Michigan Sport Administrator Lisa Savoury and head coach Greg Ryan and his staff for this wonderful opportunity," said Hansen. "On my visit, I felt comfortable and inspired by the Michigan way -- a tradition of excellence intertwined with facilitating the pursuit for being great and for helping others to be great. I am absolutely thrilled and genuinely look forward to working at such a remarkable place. The future continues to be extremely bright for Michigan Soccer and I couldn't be happier to join the Wolverine family."
During her time at Dayton (2011-14), she was responsible for all goalkeeper development and training and also served as the program's recruiting coordinator and camp director. She helped lead the Flyers to two A10 Tournament championships (2011, '14), the 2013 A10 regular-season title and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2011, '14). Hansen mentored two goalkeepers to A10 All-Championship Team honors, and in 2013 helped goalkeeper Elizabeth James collect NSCAA National Player of the Week and two A10 Rookie of the Week distinctions, as well as earn a spot on the A10 All-Rookie Team.
In addition to her collegiate playing and coaching experience, Hansen has also worked with the Region II ODP, Ohio North ODP and Ohio South ODP programs since 2009, and has been the head coach for the Metro FC club team for the past two years. A well-known and respected coach in the Midwest Region, Hansen was selected for the NSCAA 30-under-30 program and NCAA Women's Coaching Academy, both of which are designed to recognize and develop young, talented coaches across the country.
