Senior Duo of Bartell & Lewis Lead the Falcons at the 2015 MAC Fall Preview

Noblesville, Ind. – The duo of seniors Lily Bartell and Hannah Lewis led the Falcons on day one of play at the 2015 MAC Fall Preview on Sunday, Oct. 11, as the Bowling Green State University women's golf team posted team rounds of 302 and 313 to end the day in eighth-place overall at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.
The Falcons carded a first round team score of 302, +14, to put themselves in a tie for fourth-place overall heading into the second round of play in the afternoon session. BGSU struggled to sustain its strong and consistent play over the second set of 18 holes and turned in a team round of 313, +25, and fell four places to eighth on the 13-team leaderboard with a combined 36-hole score of 615, +39.
"We had a great first round and we were very close to duplicating it this afternoon over the second round," stated head coach Stephanie Young. "The team will stay focused, be ready to make a few corrections and post a strong finish tomorrow."
Both Bartell and Lewis turned in better second round scores than over their first rounds of play on Sunday, as the two finished day one in the top-25 overall.
Bartell followed a first round 77, +5, with a second round 75, +3, to wrap up Sunday in a tie for 18th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 152, +8. The senior totaled four birdies, two over each round of play, and a team best 21 pars on the day.
After a first round score of 79, +7, Lewis dropped five strokes of her score to shoot a second round 74, +2, and finish in a tie for 23rd overall with her 36-hole score of 153, +9. She finished the day with six birdies, a team-high, and 18 pars over her first 36 holes. Lewis also leads the tournament field with a par-3 scoring average of 2.75, -2 under par, and is tied for third overall with six birdies.
The Falcons' Mikayla Baer and Erin Fahey each carded BGSU low rounds of 73, +1, over the first round of play on Sunday, yet struggled to duplicate the round over the second set of 18 holes, posting rounds of 81, +9, and 85, +13, respectively. With Baer's rounds of 73 and 81, the junior ended day one in a tie for 27th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 154, +10. Fahey's two round combined score of 158, +14, off of rounds of 73 and 85, placed her in a tie for 44th-place overall.
Baer, who had four birdies on the back nine of play in round one, finished the day with five birdies and 18 pars overall. Fahey recorded four birdies and 18 pars on Sunday.
Junior Fran Rodriguez concluded the first day of play with a 36-hole score of 169, +25, and in a tie for 65th overall. Rodriguez had two birdies and 13 pars over an up-and-down two rounds of play on Sunday in which she turned in scores of 86, +14, and 83, +11.
Playing as an individual in her second straight event was Falcon Miranda Dubler. The sophomore registered rounds of 83, +11, and 89, +17, to sit in 70th-place overall with a two round combined score of 172, +28. She notched two birdies and 13 pars over her first 36-holes of the two-day event.
Host Eastern Michigan leads the tournament field with a score of 598, +22, and is just one stroke ahead of both Toledo (599, +23) and Akron (599, +23) after the first day of play.
The final round of play is set for tomorrow, Oct. 12, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
