Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will return to the links for competition this week at the 2015 Rocket Classic on Oct. 5-6 at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio.
The two-day, 54-hole event, will be played at the par 72, 7,255-yards Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio and will consist of an 11-team field including Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Detroit, Illinois-Chicago, Indiana State, Loyola (Ill.), Ohio, Toledo, Valparaiso and Western Illinois.
Tee times for both days of play, Monday and Tuesday, will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
"The Catawba Island Club will be a great test of golf for us in every way. After competing in three straight events to start the fall season, this week has been an opportunity to get in solid practice and a bit of rest in order to be prepared to finish the season strong," stated head coach Stephanie Young. "We look forward to seeing what we can do against the course and the field."
The Falcons will have a number of familiar faces in the lineup for the Rocket Classic, yet Coach Young will once again reshuffle the order in which her student-athletes will tee-off. Juniors Mikayla Baer and Fran Rodriguez will be at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots for the Falcons, while seniors Hannah Lewis and Lily Bartell will play at No. 3 and No. 4. Freshman Erin Fahey will round up the BGSU lineup at the No. 5 position.
Baer, who is coming off a 14th-place finish last time out at the 2015 Cardinal Classic on Sept. 21-22, has posted two top-15 place finishes already this fall season. The junior leads the team with a stroke average of 76.78 thus far this season and has carded a Falcon low round of 71 over BGSU's first three tournaments.
Rodriguez, who started off the fall season with a fifth-place showing at the 2015 Redbird Invitational on Sept. 6-7, and has twice turned in an 18-hole score of 73, a season-best. Playing in her fourth straight event this fall season, Rodriguez has recorded a stroke average of 77.11 over her nine rounds of play thus far this year.
Coming off a 15th-place finish with a 54-hole score of 224, +8, at the 2015 Cardinal Classic last time out, Lewis will tee-off for the Falcons at No. 3 in the lineup. Lewis has registered two top-20 finishes, having also finished in 16th-place overall at the Redbird Invitational, and has turned in a stroke average of 77.22 over the first three Falcon events this season.
Bartell has been consistent for the Falcons all season long, posting 54-hole scores of 231, 237 and 232 over her three events for the month of September. The senior, who carded a low round 72 over the second round of play at the 2015 Redbird Invitational, has tallied a 77.78 stroke average over nine rounds of play this year.
In her first season at BGSU, Fahey has documented a stroke average of 78.33 thus far in her freshman campaign and has posted two top-30 finishes overall. The lone underclassman in the lineup, Fahey is coming off a 24th-place finish with a 54-hole score of 230, +14, at the 2015 Cardinal Classic.
Playing as individuals at the two-day event will be both Miranda Dubler and Julia Durkin.
Dubler will be playing in her first event this season at the Rocket Classic having competed in two events last year as a freshman. Last season, the sophomore finished sixth at the Jon P. Spiess Memorial event and carded a low round of 87 overall on the year.
The freshman Durkin will be making her intercollegiate debut this week at the Rocket Classic. From Miramar, Fla. Durkin recorded a total of 27 first-place wins at various IMJT, GCJGF and U.S. Kids Golf Tournaments in her junior amateur golf career.
Coach Young's squad took second-place overall at the event in 2013 and finished in fourth-place as a team in 2014.
