Women’s Golf in Fourth-Place After Two Rounds at the Rocket Classic

Port Clinton, Ohio – With back-to-back team rounds of 310 and 321, the Bowling Green State University women's golf team sits in fourth-place overall on the team leaderboard with a 36-hole team score of 631, +55, after the first two rounds of play at the 2015 Rocket Classic held at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio.
The Falcons' team score of 631, +55, puts the Orange and Brown just five strokes behind the third-place team of Loyola (Ill.) at 626, +50, and ahead of Cleveland State (636), Indiana State (647), Detroit (649), Valparaiso (653), Western Illinois (654), Illinois-Chicago (655) and Central Michigan (660).
"We played pretty solid in round one, but just couldn't keep it going," commented head coach Stephanie Young. "Erin did an outstanding job of leading the way for us on a difficult golf course."
Freshman Erin Fahey paced the Falcons on day one with rounds of 75, +3, and 76, +4, to end the day in a tie for fifth-place overall with her 36-hole score of 151, +7. The first-year Falcon was the most consistent BGSU golfer on the day, as she had one birdie and 28 pars on the day.
Senior Hannah Lewis and junior Fran Rodriguez each finished day one with matching 36-hole scores of 160, +16, and in a tie for 25th-place overall. Lewis carded back-to-back rounds of 80, +8, en route to her 36-hole score of 160, +16, while Rodriguez shot rounds of 77, +5, and 83, +11. Lewis totaled two birdies and 15 pars overall, while Rodriguez recorded four birdies and 16 pars on Monday.
Falcon junior Mikayla Baer concluded day one with rounds of 78, +6, and 83, +11, to put herself in 29th-place overall with a two-round combined score of 161, +17. She finished the day with three birdies and 16 pars over her first 36 holes of play.
Rounding out the lineup for the Falcons on Monday was senior Lily Bartell who wrapped up day one in a tie for 34th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 163, +19. Bartell carded 22 pars over her two rounds of 81, +9, and 82, +10.
Playing as an individual in the event, sophomore Miranda Dubler turned in rounds of 80, +8, and 77, +5, to finish in a tie for 17th-place overall with her 36-hole score of 157, +13.
Freshman Julia Durkin made her intercollegiate debut as an individual on Monday, posting rounds of 81, +9, and 87, +15, to place her in a tie for 49th-place overall after the first two rounds of play with a two-round combined score of 168, +24.
Toledo leads the tournament field with a 36-hole team score of 589, +13, and is 26 strokes ahead of the second-place team in the Ohio Bobcats at 615, +39.
The third and final round of play is set for a shotgun start tomorrow at 9 a.m.
