San Jose, Calif. - Bowling Green alumnus Ryan Carpenter has been called up to the National Hockey League by the San Jose Sharks. Carpenter is expected to make his NHL debut tonight with the Sharks when they face the Minnesota Wild at 10:30 pm ET.
Carpenter would be the third Falcon to play in an NHL game this year, joining Ottawa Senators goalie Andrew Hammond (2009-13) and Anaheim Ducks defenseman Kevin Bieksa (2000-04). He would also be the second player coached by Chris Bergeron and the current staff to play in the NHL (along with Hammond).
Carpenter played for the Falcons from 2011-14, finishing his career with 37 goals and 42 assists in 100 games. He was second team All-CCHA following the 2012-13 season and was twice named CCHA Rookie of the Week in 2011-12. He was named team Most Valuable Player after his sophomore season and was the team's leading scorer in each of his first two years.
Prior to being called up to the Sharks, Carpenter led the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League with 18 points and a +12 on-ice rating in 20 games, ranking eighth in the AHL in assists.
