BGSU Concludes Regular Season At SPIRE Invitational
February 14, 2015 | Women's Track and Field
Geneva, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University indoor track & field team completed its regular season at the SPIRE Division I Indoor Track & Field Invitational Saturday on the second day of the event. The Falcons now look ahead to the MAC Indoor Championships at Central Michigan University in two weeks.
Much like Friday night, BGSU's distance runners were strong. Redshirt junior Maria Meredith ran the mile in 5:06.87 to place sixth overall, a time that was less than two seconds shy of her personal best. Junior Becca Rae finished fifth in the 3,000, also running a career-best with a time of 10:04.23. Redshirt junior Andrea Alt had a season-best time in the distance, placing eighth in 10:10.85.
Sophomore Gabrielle Edwards, freshman Cortisha Short and sophomore Connor Kempf earned more experience in the 400. Edwards ran the event for the first time this season and posted a team-best time of 59.26 seconds. Short ran it for the first time in her career with a time of 60.23 and Kempf had a career-best time of 60.56 seconds.
Junior Alicia Arnold ran the 60 in 7.72 seconds and junior Demetra Taylor posted a time of 8.97 seconds in the 60 hurdles. Both will earn spots at the MAC Championships in those respective events with an opportunity to score points for the Falcons.
In the long jump, freshman Kyla Paster had a team-best leap of 17-feet-5.5 and sophomore Raven Porter was less than an inch behind at 17-4.75.
"With the season largely behind us," BGSU Track & Field Coach Lou Snelling said, "we need to use the remaining time we have to finalize our preparation for the MAC Championships."
BGSU will now turn its attention to the MAC Indoor Championships Feb. 27-28 at Central Michigan.
