Falcons Escape The Cold, Travel To Cougar Classic

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team escapes the cold this weekend, as they travel to the College of Charleston's Cougar Classic Feb. 20-22 in South Carolina. This will be BGSU's second tournament of the season.
TOURNAMENT OPPONENTS
The Orange and Brown face Winthrop at 1 p.m. on Feb. 20 to kick off the tournament. On the slate for day two are Massachusetts (11 a.m.) and host school College of Charleston (3:30 p.m.), who currently sit at 3-1 at home. BGSU wraps up the weekend at 9 a.m. Feb. 22 when they take on an undefeated Pittsburgh Panthers.

"We are excited to get back on the field. Each opponent this weekend is very different offensively. I think this will be a very unique challenge that will benefit us greatly later in the season."
CSU DOME TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Day One: The Falcons split a pair of games in the first day of action, pounding out 13 hits in a 9-1 win over Niagara, before falling by an 8-4 outcome to Bucknell.
Day Two: BG dismantled Canisius College, 16-1 in five innings, before defeating Robert Morris University by a 3-2 count in the final day of the tournament.
FALCONS CAN SCORE
In day one of the team's season opening tournament, BG had nine different players with at least one hit during the two games between Niagra and Bucknell. On day two, the Falcons scored 10 runs in the first inning in the 16-1 win vs. Canisius and three more against RMU, finishing with a total of 19 runs in the final day of the tournament.
SEARLE'S SUCCESS CONTINUES
Sophomore Aspen Searle returns for the Falcons after an impressive freshman campaign highlighted by an All-MAC Freshman Team award. She is the sole leader on the team in slugging percentage (.769), RBIs (6), total bases (10) and stolen bases and steal attempts (5).
BGSU CAPTAINS STEP UP
Sophomore Briana Combs, junior Marisa Shook and senior Chloe Giordano were selected to serve at this season's captains. At the CSU Dome Tournament, Giordano scored five runs and also hit a triple, both of which are tied for team bests. Shook finished the tournament with a team-high .500 batting average and the third highest on base percentage. Combs allowed just three hits and two runs in her tournament appearances, which are also team-highs.
JUNIOR COLLEGE TRANSFERS IMPRESS IN DEBUT
Molly Holliday and Marina Cobbs adjusted quickly to the Falcon's style of play. Cobbs is currently tied for a team-high five hits and five runs scored. Holliday and Cobbs share a perfect stolen base percentage from the CSU Tournament a week and a half ago.
PRESEASON POLL
BGSU was chosen to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference East Division in the Softball preseason coaches poll, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league offices. Defending MAC Champions Ohio University was tabbed to be the favorite in the East Division in 2015, receiving eight out of a possible 12 first place votes. Kent State was picked to finish second with two votes, and Akron and Buffalo each received one first place vote. The Zips and Bulls were chosen to finish third and fourth, respectively. Miami was picked to finish fifth in the East, followed by BGSU in sixth to round out the East.
