The Bowling Green State University swim and dive team finished with the fifth best grade point average for the fall semester out of all Division I women's programs, as announced by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Tuesday morning. The Falcons' team GPA was a 3.54.
Â
"I'm very proud of the team and all their work in the pool but also in the classroom," said head coach Petra Martin. "Fifth place in the country is our highest finish in the last few years. It shows the dedication that our student-athletes have to their academics and really anything they do."
Â
The Fall Team Scholar All-America award is given to college and university swim and dive teams who have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester.
Â
Clemson and Eastern Illinois both finished with 3.59 grade point averages and Mid-American Conference foe Ball State finished in third with a 3.58 GPA. The University of Evansville followed the Cardinals and the Falcons finished in fifth. The full list can be viewed here.
Â
"A big thank you to our academic support staff for athletes and everyone working with our women in order to be successful in all facets of their lives. We want to keep contributing to academic success of BGSU and have a positive impact across the campus. Our team certainly understands the importance of their school work and what it means for their lives after BGSU," Martin said.
