Raleigh, N.C. – The Bowling Green State University track and field team added four more top 10 finishes as the Falcons completed the opening weekend of the outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays Saturday. In total, BGSU earned ten finishes among the top ten on the weekend at one of the nation's largest and most competitive meets of the weekend.
"We had good things happen across all of our event groups this weekend," BGSU Track & Field Coach Lou Snelling said. "Conditions were challenging at points, but that can be a big part of outdoors, so it was a good experience to have early in the season."
Senior Brittany Sinclair posted the best result of the second day of the meet for the Falcons, racing to a personal best time of 61.13 seconds in the 400 hurdles. Along with earning a Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying mark, Sinclair's performance was the tenth-fastest in BGSU history and she becomes the sixth-fastest woman in program history in the event. Of 60 runners at the meet, she placed second overall, including finishing first among 10 MAC competitors.
In the 100, Alicia Arnold ran for the second consecutive day. After posting a time of 12.24 seconds Friday, she improved to 12.05 seconds in the invitational heat Saturday to place sixth overall. BGSU's 800 relay team also ran a solid time of 1:41.15 to place fourth overall at the meet.
In the hammer throw, redshirt sophomore Kayla Velasquez was just shy of her personal best with a toss of 162-feet-6 to finish eighth. Redshirt sophomore Kori Reiser, an NCAA regional qualifier a year ago in the event, placed 12th with a throw of 156-7.
Bowling Green will return back to Northwest Ohio to compete in a dual meet at Toledo Friday evening. Since reviving the dual meet between the two archrivals in 2013, Bowling Green has won both meetings between the squads. The Falcons won 93-90 in 2013 and then ran away with a 107-75 win a year ago.
