Action Packed Weekend In Store For Falcon Softball

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team (13-20, 4-6 MAC) returns home for four Mid-American Conference games this weekend, hosting Ohio in a Friday (April 17) doubleheader and Akron in single games on Saturday and Sunday (April 18-19).
Friday's games will be Frosty Friday where fans get a free frosty coupon for returning a foul ball. On Saturday, kids will be allowed to take the field for the National Anthem and the game will also be televised on BCSN. Sunday's game will be a Pink Game and kids will have the opportunity to run the bases postgame.

The Bobcats sit at 12-22 overall (4-4 MAC) and have an away record of 2-14 on the season heading into the matchup with the Falcons at Meserve Field. Most recently, Ohio defeated Dayton by a score of 8-2. OU is coached by Jodi Hermanek and assisted by Iyhia McMichael and Jillian Van Wagnen.

Germaine Fairchild is at the helm for IPFW and is assisted by Kelley Kaneshiro. The Mastodons are 3-33 overall, with a 1-17 record on the road this season. Most recently, the team lost at South Dakota, 4-12. IPFW will play three more contests before making the trip to BG next week. Earlier this season, they faced the Falcons in the IU Hoosier Classic, losing 4-12.

Tuesday evening (April 14), nationally-ranked University of Notre Dame defeated the Falcons, 8-2 in non-conference action at Melissa Cook Stadium. The Fighting Irish scratched out a pair of first-inning runs, then took a six-run lead with four more runs in the third inning. BGSU answered with two runs of its own in the fourth, but could draw no closer. Freshman Morgan Evangelista had two of the Falcons' six hits and added an RBI.
WHAT COACH SALSBURG IS SAYING
On this weekend's matchups: "This is a big weekend in the MAC for us. We have an opportunity to host 2 teams in the MAC who are currently trying to fight their way out of the middle like we are. I expect high intensity games as this weekend can really catapult one of us into a stronger position overall."
On next week's DH with IPFW: "IPFW has continued to improve since we played them the first time. We know we will need to play our game and play with intent the entire double header."

LEAGUE RECORD HOLDER
On April 10 against Miami (OH), senior Jamie Kertes earned a new Mid-American Conference record for career saves. For Kertes, the save was her first of the season and the 16th of her career. Kertes entered the 2015 campaign sharing the MAC career saves record with former Kent State hurler Kate Leary (15 saves from 2001-04). Kertes currently ranks 23rd in the country in walks allowed per seven innings.
FLOCKING HOME
Friday's twinbill against Ohio begins a 12-game home stand for the Falcons, who will not play away from Lee Meserve Field until the month of May. Sixteen of the team's 21 games in April have been or will be played at Meserve Field.
PRESEASON POLL
BGSU was chosen to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference East Division in the Softball preseason coaches poll, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league offices. Defending MAC Champions Ohio University was tabbed to be the favorite in the East Division in 2015, receiving eight out of a possible 12 first place votes. Kent State was picked to finish second with two votes, and Akron and Buffalo each received one first place vote. The Zips and Bulls were chosen to finish third and fourth, respectively. Miami was picked to finish fifth in the East, followed by BGSU in sixth to round out the East.
