Brooke Pleger Named MAC Scholar-Athlete Of The Week
April 08, 2015 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio – Redshirt senior Brooke Pleger has been named the Mid-American Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league offices Wednesday. Pleger, who was already named the MAC's Field Athlete of the Week Monday, holds a 3.624 grade point average in nursing at Bowling Green.
Â
Pleger opened the 2015 outdoor track and field season Friday by throwing the hammer further than any collegian has this year, leading BGSU to a 103-96 win over arch rival Toledo in the Battle Of I-75 dual meet.
Â
Pleger threw the hammer 222-feet-4, less than a foot shy of her own school record and the second-furthest throw in BGSU history. More impressively, any of Pleger's four best throws at the meet (out of six attempts) would have put her at the top of the national leaderboard. In fact, her worst throw of the evening would rank third nationally this year.
Â
Two years ago, Pleger earned NCAA Division I First Team All-American status after placing seventh at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. She followed that up by finishing third at the national championships in 2014 and again earning first team All-American honors.
Â
Pleger and the BGSU Track & Field team will compete at the Tennessee Relays beginning Thursday. She is scheduled to take part in the hammer throw Thursday at 4 pm.
