AVON, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University baseball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday morning in the Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 6-0 loss at the hands of the No. 3 seed Ohio Bobcats. The Falcons finish the season with a 25-29 record overall.
Five Falcons saw their career come to a close, as seniors Brian Bien, Trevor Blaylock, Brandon Howard, Jason Link, and Jesse Rait played their final game in the Orange and Brown. Howard finishes his career with 74 stolen bases, second-most in school history. His 42 this season currently lead the nation and are the most in school history for a single season.
Ohio struck first in the game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Trevor Blaylock started for the Falcons on the mound, escaping a two-out threat in the first. The right-handed pitcher wasn't as fortunate in the second inning, as the Bobcats got three straight hits with two outs to take a 2-0 lead.
Two doubles for Ohio in the third inning brought home their third run of the day, but freshman Kody Brown came on to get out of a bases loaded, one out situation to keep the deficit at just three.
But, the potent Bobcats offense was back at it in the bottom of the fourth, adding two runs to their lead. After a scoreless fifth, Ohio hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 6-0.
Bowling Green was outhit by the Bobcats 13-0 in Saturday's game, managing just six base runners via the walk and hit-by-pitch.
Rob Zenas finished his season with another strong outing, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing just the solo home run. He allowed just four hits and induced three inning-ending double plays.
Both Howard and Tyler Greiner were on base multiple times in the game, as each walked two times against Ohio's Connor Sitz. Sitz, who tossed the first no-hitter in the history of the MAC Tournament, earned the win over the Falcons.
