Brooke Pleger Named MAC Scholar-Athlete Of The Week
May 06, 2015 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio - Redshirt senior Brooke Pleger has been named the Mid-American Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Week, as announced today by the league office. Pleger, who maintains a 3.624 grade point average in nursing, broke MAC, school, stadium and meet records over the weekend in the hammer throw.
Pleger threw the hammer a nation's-best 228-feet at the Jesse Owens Track Classic, hosted by Ohio State. The throw broke her own MAC and school records. She also broke the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium record, as well as the Jesse Owens Track Classic meet record. She threw the hammer six times at the meet, with five of those throws ranking better than any other collegian has thrown this year. She moved into the top ten all-time among collegiate hammer throwers and is now sixth among American collegians.
It is the second time this year that Pleger has been named the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Earlier this week, she earned her third MAC Field Athlete of the Week this year (the tenth of her career) and was honorable mention for the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week award. She will head to the MAC Championships in just over a week as the two-time defending conference champion in the event and the MAC Championship record holder. She is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the hammer throw and has the eight longest throws by a collegian this year.
