Falcons Finish 12th at Diane Thomason Invitational

Iowa City, Iowa – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team wrapped up its weekend at the Diane Thomason Invitational with a final round of 322 to finish in 12th-place overall at the 54-hole event hosted by the University of Iowa at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
BGSU turned in team rounds of 315, 316 and 322 to finish in 12th-place overall with a combined 54-hole team score of 953, +89. The Falcons finished five strokes behind Boston University, who finished in 11th-place overall, and nine strokes out of the top-10 on the team leaderboard.
"Overall we made too many big numbers and never really got comfortable enough on the greens to put up the numbers that we did last week," commented head coach Stephanie Young.
Senior Lily Bartell led the Falcons with a low round 79, +7, on Sunday. She tallied four birdies and seven pars over her final 18 holes of play to give her a total of seven birdies and 28 pars on the weekend. Combined with her first and second round scores of 77, +5, and 81, +9, Bartell finished with a 54-hole score of 237, +21, and in a tie for 46th-place overall.
BGSU's Fran Rodriguez and Mikayla Baer both placed in a tie for 52nd-place overall with matching scores of 240, +24. Rodriguez carded rounds of 80, 79 and 81, while Baer tallied scores of 81, 77 and 82 over the three round event. Rodriguez totaled nine pars on Sunday to give her two birdies and 27 pars for the tournament. Baer finished the weekend with five birdies and 24 pars over her 54 holes of play.
Freshman Erin Fahey shot a third round score of 83, +11, to finish in a tie for 57th-place with a final score of 241, +25, placing her in a tie with Hannah Lewis and her identical 54-hole score of 241, +25. Fahey registered rounds of 79, 79 and 83 in only her second event as a Falcon, while Lewis shot rounds of 79, 82 and 80 overall. Fahey totaled a team-high 30 pars overall at the invitational, while Lewis finished with four birdies and 26 pars.
Iowa carded a tournament low team score of 290, +2, on Sunday to pull away with the team win by a total of 18 strokes with a final score of 888, +24.
Rutgers jumped up two places to finish in second overall with a score of 906, +42, and finished just ahead of Delaware (3rd, 907) and Harvard (4th, 908).
The Falcons will be back in action in just one week, as BGSU will play in the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State on Sept. 21-22 at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.
