Lewis & Baer Pace Falcons After 36 Holes at the Cardinal Classic

Yorktown, Ind. – Senior Hannah Lewis shot a first round 72, even par, while junior Mikayla Baer turned in a second round 73, +1, to lead the Bowling Green State University women's golf team to end day one in fifth-place after 36 holes of play at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State University at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.
The Falcons as a team posted rounds of 300 and 301 on Monday for a two-round combined score of 601, +25, to sit in fifth-place overall out of the 16-team field. Bowling Green is four strokes behind fourth-place Xavier (597) and five strokes behind third-place Northern Illinois (596).
"We put up two solid numbers today. There was some unbelievable golf today from this tournament field," BGSU head coach Stephanie Young stated. "Things are packed tight at the top and we are excited to compete tomorrow morning!"
Lewis carded rounds of 72, even par, and 75, +3, to conclude day one in a tie for 10th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 147, +3. She totaled five birdies and 23 pars on the day. Lewis also turned in a BGSU best 3.00, even par, par 3 scoring average.
Behind Lewis was Baer with rounds of 77, +5, and 73, +1. The junior finished the day with six birdies and 20 pars to place in a tie for 16th-place overall with her two-round combined score of 150, +6. Baer led the Falcons and ranked sixth overall with a par 5 scoring average of 4.67, -2 under par, over the first 36-holes of play.
In a tie for 23rd-place overall is both Fran Rodriguez and Erin Fahey with matching scores of 152, +8. Rodriguez shot back-to-back rounds of 76, +4, while Fahey recorded rounds of 75, +3, and 77, +5. Rodriguez matched Lewis with a par 5 scoring average of 4.83, -1 under par, and tallied two birdies and 24 pars. Fahey carded four birdies and 22 pars on Monday.
Senior Lily Bartell wrapped up the first day of play with a 36-hole score of 158, +14. Bartell turned in rounds of 81, +9, and 77, +5, which included three birdies and 19 pars, to wrap up day one in a tie for 50th-place overall.
Eastern Kentucky leads the tournament field with a 36-hole team score of 572, -4 under par, while Eastern Michigan is in second-place with a score of 594, +18.
The third and final round of play is slated for an 9 a.m. shotgun start tomorrow morning at The Players Club.
