Falcons Tied for the Team Lead at the Redbird Invitational

Normal, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team carded team rounds of 308 and 304 to end day one tied atop of the team leaderboard with a two round combined score of 612, +36 at the Redbird Invitational at the par 72, 6070-yard Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill.
The Falcons will enter the third and final round of play on Monday, Sept. 7, tied with Bradley for the team lead in the 54-hole and 16 team tournament. BGSU's second round team score of 304 was the fourth lowest 18-hole combined team score on the day.
"I am really proud of the way the team fought to the end of each round. The temperatures were in the mid-90s for 36 holes and 12 hours straight. No timeouts. No substitutions," commented head coach Stephanie Young. "It's a mental and physical battle all the way. Their execution showed a lot of discipline and will to win."
BGSU was led by senior Hannah Lewis and junior Fran Rodriguez on Sunday, as both ended the day in the top-10 overall.
Lewis posted back-to-back rounds of 75, +3, to sit in a tie for fifth-place overall on the individual leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 150, +6, while Rodriguez turned in scores of 73, +1, and 78, +6, for a two round score of 151, +7, to finish Sunday in a tie for ninth overall. Lewis led the Falcons with 24 pars, while Rodriguez totaled a team-high six birdies.
Senior Lily Bartell bounced back from a first round 82, +10, to shoot a BGSU low round 72, even par, on the afternoon round to conclude day one in a tie for 17th-place. She recorded 13 pars and three birdies over her second 18 holes of play.
Bowling Green's Mikayla Baer not only led the Orange and Brown, but the entire tournament field on Sunday with a par 4 scoring average of 4.00 even par en route to a day one score of 157, +13. She registered rounds of 78, +6, and 79, +7, to finish Sunday's play in a tie for 34th-place.
Playing in her first intercollegiate event, freshman Erin Fahey turned in rounds of 83, +11, and 79, +7, to end day one in a tie for 60th with her 36-hole score of 162, +18.
"We're excited to get back out there tomorrow and play our best against the course," continued Young.
The Falcons, who have two top-three team finishes at the Redbird Invitational over the last three years, will look to continue their strong play over the third round of play tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 7, which is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
