Falcons Enjoy Successful Friday At Purdue Invite

Friday Purdue Invite Results
West Lafayette, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University tennis team has completed the first day at the Purdue Invite. The Falcons began play at 9 a.m. Friday, at Purdue University.
In the black doubles draw, freshmen Megan Horn and Ayumi Sasaki teamed up for two doubles victories. Horn and Sasaki defeated Barcelo of Eastern Michigan and Sturbe of Miami (Ohio), 6-1. The duo went on to beat Purdue's Ruedas and Maza, 6-1. Horn and Sasaki will face Ghidetti and Reichenbach of Xavier Saturday in the semifinals.
"We fought hard for every point today and are looking forward to the semifinals tomorrow," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "I have to congratulate Megan and Ayumi for an amazing doubles play, they were locked in and aggressive the whole time to take the opportunities they created. Can't wait to see all of them shine again tomorrow!"
Sophomore Polina Radeva and freshman Anna Kholodnaya rallied to defeat Northern Illinois' Yoeul and Montgomerie, 6-4 after having lost their first round match to Casati and Pedraza-Novak of Illinois, 6-2. The pair will take on Gogvadze and Veleva of Eastern Michigan in the black draw consolation final.
The Orange and Brown saw much success in singles play with five Falcons heading into semifinal matches.
Sophomore Paula Comella won in straight sets against Eastern Kentucky's Vika Demcenkova, 6-1, 6-1. In the boilermaker draw, Tavpash tallied a 6-1, 7-5 win against Raven Neely of NIU. Horn crushed Eastern Michigan's Andrea Martinovska with a 6-1, 6-2 score. In the schwartz draw, Radeva rallied from a first-set loss, taking a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win against Jerricka Boone of Illinois. Sasaki picked up a win by defeating Lipscomb's Denise Babert, 6-1, 6-0.
Also capturing a match for the Falcons was junior Emily Witt. Witt beat Montgomerie of Northern Illinois, 7-6(4), 6-3.
The Falcons will begin day two at 10 a.m. Saturday.
